Sahara by Night

The temperature in the Sahara drops rapidly after the sun sets. There is nothing better than tagine and jamming Berber style to keep your mind off the cold!

This picture was actually a test shot to set exposure for a 15 minute star trail photo. Unfortunately clouds rolled over during the long exposure, muddying the sky. Though much less than perfect technically given the wide aperture and high ISO, I ended up preferring this version as the clear sky and pinpoint stars give a sense of stillness to the image, matching the timeless nature of the desert.

Sahara Twilight

This photo was taken was taken after sunset, I was halfheartedly following our group climbing a dune above the camp. When I stopped to rest I spotted the tip of a faraway dune catching the very last of the evening light, creating an interesting study of light, contour and colour.
