Colonial cities left almost untouched for sixty years — not preserved so much as unable to be changed.

West of Havana the land opens into the Viñales valley, where limestone towers stand out of red tobacco fields and the crop is still cured in thatched barns. The light through those valleys in the afternoon is worth the drive on its own.
