The Great Ocean Road

The Southern Ocean has been eating this coastline for twenty million years and is not finished. What is left standing offshore — stacks, arches, the last of a limestone cliff that used to run further out — is simply the part that has not fallen yet.

Inland the weather that does the eroding turns to rain, and the Otways become temperate rainforest: tree ferns, moss, water falling through a canopy that filters everything to green. Two landscapes twenty minutes apart, made by the same weather.
