A single block of sandstone standing three hundred metres above a desert plain, most of it still buried, tilted almost vertical by a collision that happened four hundred million years ago.

It changes colour all day and does its best work in the last ten minutes of light, when the whole thing goes the red it is famous for and the spinifex around it turns gold. Photographs never manage the scale..
