Victoria

Old seabed, pushed up and tilted on edge, standing over wheat country that runs flat to the horizon. The Grampians are the last of a range that once reached much further, worn back to sandstone ridges with peregrines on them and rock art beneath.

At the bottom of the mainland the country turns to granite — Wilsons Promontory, the final headland before Bass Strait, where boulders sit in white sand and the water is colder than it looks. Southern country, weather off the Antarctic, and light that arrives sideways for most of the year.
