In the afternoon hordes of enthusiastic fans descend on the beach at the coastal town of Essaouira. Soon after makeshift pitches spring up wherever there is space, and rowdy competition ensues.

I wanted to create a relaxed Sunday-afternoon mood with this photo. To emphasise this in post processing, I pushed the brightness higher for a high-key image, and applied a gentle gaussian blur layer, which creates a similar effect to a diffusion filter. Overall this gives the image a muted, dreamy effect.

Old Medina http://www.wildroad.com.au/galleries/morocco-photos/old-medina-essaouira-morocco/ http://www.wildroad.com.au/galleries/morocco-photos/old-medina-essaouira-morocco/#respond Mon, 10 Sep 2012 14:49:16 +0000 http://localhost:8888/?post_type=product&p=560 The Medina of Essaouira, Morocco was built as a fortified town in the 18th century, and is now a UNESCO World Heritage listed site.

In the evening the tide runs low, allowing one to jump over the wall separating the main square from the shoreline. There were a number of fisherman nestled amongst the rocks enjoying some drinks and company after the days work.

The orientation of the old medina wall is perfect to catch the last rays of sunset. I used a polarizer to darken the sky and enhance contrast against the warm tones of the city.
