Blessing of Inti http://www.wildroad.com.au/galleries/peru-photos/blessing-of-inti-ollantaytambo-peru/ http://www.wildroad.com.au/galleries/peru-photos/blessing-of-inti-ollantaytambo-peru/#respond Mon, 10 Sep 2012 14:25:10 +0000 http://localhost:8888/?post_type=product&p=536 This photo was taken from one of the Inca storehouses overlooking the ancient town of Ollantaytambo, which is a common starting point for hiking the Inca Trail in Peru. It was no mean feat climbing up the steep track, especially when unacclimatized to the altitude of almost 3000 metres!

The Sun God, Inti, was one of the main deities worshipped by the Incas and they planned construction of their towns and villages according to the orientation of the Sun. The fading sunset in this photo is cast over the Temple of the Sun which sits atop the terraces carved into the face of the surrounding cliffs. The agricultural fields receive the last of the golden light, representing a blessing from above for bountiful harvests.

Ten minutes later, dense clouds rolled over and we were chased down the hill by torrential rain.

Andean Kids http://www.wildroad.com.au/galleries/peru-photos/andean-kids-pisaq-peru/ http://www.wildroad.com.au/galleries/peru-photos/andean-kids-pisaq-peru/#respond Sat, 08 Sep 2012 15:24:40 +0000 http://localhost:8888/?post_type=product&p=339 The first few days after flying to a high altitude are tough, as your exercise tolerance decreases significantly. We had been struggling and gasping for oxygen just to reach a ruined outpost at the top of a small hill when a couple of local kids came bounding by effortlessly. They seemed to be carefree, and simply enjoyed running and exploring. I made this photo when they popped out onto a neighboring outcrop.

For a few minutes at the end of the day the peak turns into a roaring fire, with flames licking at the sky.

Golden Reflection http://www.wildroad.com.au/galleries/nepal-photos/golden-reflection-lobuche-nepal/ http://www.wildroad.com.au/galleries/nepal-photos/golden-reflection-lobuche-nepal/#respond Mon, 10 Sep 2012 15:16:22 +0000 http://localhost:8888/?post_type=product&p=591 This photo is actually the first HDR I have uploaded to the website. I usually like to use graduated neutral density filters, however they weren't really suitable for the mountainous landscapes of Nepal.

I was walking around the town of Lobuche looking for a something to place in the foreground against the sunset light hitting the peaks of Pumori and Kongma Tse, when I noticed a beautiful golden reflection in a small stream. To make this capture I used a neutral density filter to blur the water, and hand blended two exposures.
